Mid-South Music Mag recently had the pleasure of speaking with James Volpe Rotondi from ZOSO - The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience. Here's a recap of our conversation.

I kicked off by mentioning how impressed I was with ZOSO's logistical setup, allowing them to perform nationwide efficiently. James explained that Matt Jernigan and Adam Sandling, who founded the band, built this infrastructure 29 years ago. With two trucks—one on each coast—ZOSO ensures they have the same gear setup across locations, minimizing costs and simplifying logistics. This setup allows James to perform without flying with his guitars, making touring much easier in 2024.

James shared how he joined the band when their former guitarist John McDaniel left after 13 years. His close friend Philip Shouse, who had connections with ZOSO's drummer Bevan Davies, recommended him for the role. By April 2022, James began rehearsing, and by May, he was officially on the road with the band.

The conversation touched on ZOSO's impressive musicianship and connection to legendary artists like Zakk Wylde, a long-time fan of the band. James discussed the upcoming tour with Zakk Sabbath and The Iron Maidens, a lineup that promises to be an incredible tribute to Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden.

James also reflected on the skill and experience of his bandmates—Matt Jernigan, whose vocal resemblance to Robert Plant is unparalleled, and Adam Sandling, a multi-instrumentalist who excels on bass, keyboards, and mandolin. He praised the band's dedication to authenticity, explaining that ZOSO embodies Led Zeppelin's theatrical spirit while allowing room for personal expression, similar to how an actor approaches a role.

As we wrapped up, James emphasized the importance of hard work and dedication in the music industry, a philosophy ZOSO has upheld since the beginning. For James, playing Led Zeppelin's music is not just a performance—it's personal, and the band strives to connect with audiences across generations. Fans of all ages, from grandparents to kids, attend their shows, united by a shared love for Zeppelin's timeless music.

We look forward to seeing ZOSO at Iron City next week and catching them on tour with Zakk Sabbath later this year!
